Philanthropy

What is philanthropy?

Philanthropy is the helping of others, giving without receiving, and participating in community service

Talladega- Spring 2004

As members of Alpha Sigma Tau, we continually repledge ourselves to contribute our share to the progress of mankind, and social service is a vital aspect of our lives and our sisterhood.  It's our way of expressing concern for others.

Locally we sponsor  Adopt-a-Mile, Adopt-a-Stream, and bi-monthly Bingo at the area nursing home.  We have recently become involved with Habitat for Humanity, as well.  The University sponsors many philanthropic events that we participate in, like the PALS (People Against A Littered State) Mountain of Cans Contest: the team with the most aluminum cans at the end of one week wins.  Alpha sigma Tau sponsors canned food drives during the holidays and participates in clothing drives throughout the year.

Nationally, all Alpha Sigma Tau Chapters support Pine Mountain Settlement School.  For more on Pine Mountain Settlement School, click hereWe raise money for the school at our annual Rock-a-Thon, held each Spring semester on the steps of Web Parlor.  Local businesses, organizations, and other Greeks sponsor this all night rocking adventure.  Many businesses also donate food and beverages.  There is a Sorority Growth and Development activity planned, and everyone meets to enjoy good times and great friends.
